Venerable Chuan Deng is the Abbess of SPGA, In-charge of the Buddhist Chaplaincy Unit and an Honorary Chaplain. She received education in Malaysia, Myanmar and the United States. She holds a bachelor’s degree doubling major in Mass Communication and Buddhism, and an honorary master's degree in Comparative Religious Studies. She received her tonsure under Venerable Master Guang Yu (上廣下餘老和尚) in 2003 in Penang. Venerable Master Guang Yu passed away while Venerable Chuan Deng was pursuing her postgraduate study in the United States, and she started dwelling under Venerable Yin Yeung. In 2009, she came to Hong Kong with Venerable Yin Yeung to help the setup of SPGA and development of spiritual care services.
Venerable Chuan Deng is dedicated to help the patients in hospitals or at home as well as their families with spiritual care services, and presses ahead with life and death education along with spiritual wellness. She co-hosted a radio program named “A Scripture for Every Family” (家家有本常念的經) on Channel B of the Buddhistdoor (佛門網) with the late Venerable Yin Yeung. During the periods 2011 to 2014, and 2016 to 2021, Venerable Chuan Deng wrote periodically for “Apperception” (明覺), an e-zine at Buddhistdoor (佛門網), and later collected many of her inspirational articles in her publications, "Light Up Own Self" (自己點火) and “Steamed Bun and Fried Egg” (饅頭煎蛋). During 2021 - 2022, the Venerable co-hosted a series of TV program named “Dialogue with Masters” (大師對談) produced by RTHK. Based on the theme of each episode, meaning and wisdom of life from different religious viewpoints were discussed. Since 2022, Venerable Chuan Deng has been writing articles for the column entitled “A Mirror in the Hospital” (醫院小鏡) in Buddhist Compassion Magazine (温暖人間). Selected articles were compiled into a book entitled “How Are You Today” (你現在好嗎) in 2023.
